Peter Philipsen founded Humboldt Creamery Association in January 1929 when he and 152 dairy farming families all contributed $.10 per cow. It only added up to $98.20, but it was the start of something special. Humboldt Creamery’s plant opened in 1930, providing a way for family farms in the region to produce and market their own dairy products. That tradition continues today.

Today, Humboldt Creamery is still a cooperative of local dairy farmers, and many of the 62 member dairies are owned by the families of the original members. Together they supply fresh milk daily, which is used in the production of fluid milk, powdered milk, ice cream and other frozen desserts.

Our powder drying facility manufactures a full range of specialty milk powders, which can be fortified with vitamins to meet our customers' specifications. Our milk powders have been exported to every continent and are used for cheese manufacturing, infant formulas and candy manufacturing.

Our state-of-the-art ice cream manufacturing facilities - one here in Humboldt and the other in Los Angeles - were designed with the flexibility to produce a wide range of co-pack private label ice creams. Using customers' specific or standard ice cream formulas, the finished product can be packaged in a variety of container sizes from pints to 3-gallon tubs and from sandwiches to popsicles.
